As a photographer, my primary goal is to bring my clients the very best that this industry has to offer. To make sure I do this, I typically invest in a couple of photography workshops each year with the foremost industry-leading photographers in the world. Growth and development and staying current on the latest techniques are important to me, while I also make sure to maintain my own style and remain true to my own photography voice.
I recently took a workshop on photographing newborns with Amy McDaniel from Dewdrops Photography. I can’t say enough about the amazing work Amy is doing. Not only is she an incredibly talented photographer, but she is also a wonderful, approachable, down to earth, amazing mentor who generously shares her knowledge. Amy photographs newborns using all sorts of cute props and creative poses. Her lighting and set ups are to die for.
Although my photography style is different from Amy’s, I was able to learn so much from her. I can’t wait to start using some of the posing techniques. After all, working with newborns is no easy task! Safety is always the first priority. The client must be prepared to spend at least 2-3 hours in my studio while I work my magic. I love when new moms and dads come to my studio full of love for their new baby. I feel honored I get to show that love and that bond through my portraits. Newborns are so beautiful and perfect in every way. I love showing their beauty- their tiny bodies, peeling feet, chubby cheeks, and sleepy eyes.
Next, I’m going to New York. Guess who I’m going to learn from? I hope to use what I learn there to bring even more beautiful artistry to my clients’ memories.
And if you are a photographer, I’m thrilled to say I’ll be hosting Dewdrops Photography by Amy McDaniel this summer. Amy is doing a newborn workshop here in Chicago on the 20th of August. If you want to step up your newborn skills, here is the information about the workshop:
